Melee weapons still being used

     Less than ten years ago in 1996 a man wielding a machete attacked three young children and four adults at an infant school in Wolverthampton England. Then in 2001 a man took a machete and a baseball bat to an elementary school in Pennsylvania, where he proceeded to chase and attack three teachers and six children. Then in 2009 two teens went through a school in Sydney, Australia with an axe and a machete. Although, no-one had died in these attackes there were plenty of endures some were life threatening. This just showing guns are not the only weapons being used to terrorize schools today, and if someone wants to they will just use what they can get a hold of, it is not the guns fault! There are other attacks involving these weapons that did result in deaths but they were not on school grounds so the media tends not to make as big of a deal, even though just as bad.

Swords

     I have chosen to make the first real post to be about swords. Why you ask, because of several different reasons: one they are the most popular/common form of melee weapons, and two they are still used today in many different ways. Now a big unanswered question I certainly have, and I noticed a few others have as well, and yet it still goes unanswered fully today. The question that is are swords just big knives, are knives the a so called pocket sword, or is it simply just neither are true? In other aspects are knives and swords one in the same?

     Both knives and swords have two main aspects a blade and a handle. However, the only real difference between the two comes in between with a guard. Swords tend to have a hand guard to help protect the yielder’s grip. Knives often not have a guard for their intent is for more “tool” like utilities rather than that of combat. Although this seems to differentiate the two it is not a deal breaker because there are swords out there with no guard and knives with. The fact of the matter is that different swords and knives differentiate so much from each other that one cannot fathom a common characteristic feature(without flaw) to classify the two separately. Some mistakenly argue that the size determines if it is a sword or a knife, but they both range is sizes. For example:  ButterflySwords are seemingly smaller than that of some knives, and a Machete which is a cleaver and are all considered to be knives can be bigger than some swords.

First things First

    This is the first posting on here. Honestly; not sure how long I will keep up with it, nor do I know how well it will go. Anyways let me start to say that one of the few things I obsess about that doesn't already have tens of thousands of blogs about already is my love for melee weapons. I feel that they are just awesome and they take a certain amount of skill and dexterity to wield.

    Melee weapons have been around for ages and are still being used today in modern day combat. At first one would think yeah right no one uses axes, maces or even swords in combat these days. Isn’t that how the saying goes: “…brought a knife to a gun fight”. Well yes, most of melee weapons are usually only for show or decoration now a days; but what about the trusty knife? It may not be used as a straight out right weapon in battles fought today; however, it is used as a tool.  A very handy tool at that cause I know if I was in a battle and had no ammo I would certainly take out my knife and use it. That is why in the military they teach hand tohand combat and how to defend yourself (if need be) without the use of a firearm. So if you got it use it! Just about anything could be considered a melee weapon.
